Overview

This project is a redesign and modernization of the Marine Science & Education program page for Seaside Sustainability. The goal was to improve user engagement, clarify the organization’s mission, and make educational tools and project information more accessible and easier to navigate.

Challenge

The original page was cluttered, text-heavy, and lacked clear structure and visual hierarchy.

Users struggled to:

  • Understand the mission at a glance

  • Navigate programs and initiatives

  • Engage with tools and opportunities

It also lacked strong calls to action and didn’t effectively showcase the breadth of programs.

Mockup

The MS&E department provided a digital mockup they had independently developed, outlining their vision for the page's layout and content organization - including key sections like "What We Do" and the team's various projects. Using this mockup as a blueprint, I translated their design into a fully functional webpage, working to faithfully implement their vision while prioritizing intuitive navigation and clear visual structure so visitors can easily explore what Seaside Sustainability has to offer.

Solution

I restructured and redesigned the MS&E page with a focus on clarity, navigation, and user engagement.

Key improvements included:

1. Reorganizing the page into a clear, intuitive content flow.

2. Refining navigation, visual design, and program content to make the experience more engaging and easier to explore.

3. Adding interactive tools and community opportunities to encourage user action.

Structure

The page was reorganized into a clear, intuitive flow across three sections - "What We Do", "We Take Action", and "Projects" - using modular layouts designed to support future scalability.

What We Do section

Content

Each project was given a dedicated space with a supporting image, brief description, and link to a subpage, allowing visitors to get a quick overview and dive deeper into topics of interest. Imagery was selected to reflect the hands-on nature of the work, and content was structured so each initiative is presented consistently and remains easy to scan.

Field Trips section

Engagement

Interactive tools and opportunities were introduced to encourage users to take action, including:

  • Educational quizzes

  • Field trips and volunteer programs

  • Community-focused content

Activities section

Outcome

The redesigned MS&E page improves navigation and engagement by clarifying program content, incorporating visual storytelling, and creating a more accessible, scannable experience that better connects users with Seaside Sustainability's educational initiatives.
